St John Ambulance is the UK’s leading first aid charity, dedicated to the teaching and practice of medical first aid and the provision of ambulance services.

In 2008 we were engaged to undertake an audit of St John Ambulance's IT systems, reviewing the functions and the processes that support the activities predominately carried out by St John's army of fourty thousend volunteers. These included the management of public duties, patient transport, patient records, and the command & control activities. In 2009 the scope of our investigation was extended to the membership management and fleet management systems.

During the project, work was carried out to identify and analyse each related series of actions undertaken by the volunteers in achieving organisational goals. The result of this work was used to design an integrated system to reduce administrative costs, increase operational capacity and improve customer service.
